Zuckerman Spaeder Names Sara Alpert Lawson as Partner

Zuckerman Spaeder LLP is pleased to announce that Sara Alpert Lawson has been named a partner at the firm. Ms. Lawson has worked on matters out of the Tampa and Baltimore offices of the firm, where she represents businesses and individuals in high-stakes government investigations and commercial litigation. She has substantial experience litigating complex cases and defending organizations and executives in government investigations conducted by both federal and state agencies, including the Department of Justice and the Office of Inspector General for the Department of Health and Human Services.

Ms. Lawson has frequently obtained favorable outcomes in complex cases, including in a government investigation of a leading Florida physician, a False Claims Act lawsuit against the CEO of a non-profit hospice provider, and a civil fraud investigation of two former health care company executives. Ms. Lawson also recently tried a complex actuarial malpractice case, which resulted in a favorable settlement for the firm’s client. The combination of her in-house perspective as a former general counsel and breadth of experience in a variety of industries is a tremendous asset to the firm’s clients.
“Sara is a talented lawyer and fierce advocate who possesses a natural ability to connect and build trust with our clients,” said Zuckerman Spaeder chairperson and partner Dwight P. Bostwick. “Combined with an ability to quickly grasp and translate facts into a compelling narrative or an effective argument, she has become a go-to attorney for clients facing tough investigations or disputes. My partners and I are excited to welcome Sara to the partnership and are confident she will continue to have a positive influence within our firm and be a valuable asset to our clients for years to come.”

Ms. Lawson is committed to ensuring access to justice and has served in various capacities with Bay Area Legal Services in Tampa, including on its Board of Directors, and currently Development Council, for more than a decade. She also maintains an active pro bono practice, serving as an attorney at Crossroads for Florida Kids, where she represents young people facing foster care legal battles and trains others to serve as pro bono counsel.

Her determination and success in supporting youth has been noticed by her peers, who have twice recognized her for outstanding work. She received the statewide Pro Bono Service Award from the Florida Bar Young Lawyers Division and the Outstanding Pro Bono Service by a Young Lawyer Award, given to just one attorney annually in the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit.

Ms. Lawson was recently named to The Daily Business Review’s “On the Rise” list for her professional excellence in the legal community throughout Florida. Her work has also earned her national recognition by Best Lawyers in America in white collar criminal defense every year since 2017 and as a Rising Star by Super Lawyers in 2019 and 2020.

Ms. Lawson earned her law degree from the University of Maryland School of Law and received her B.A. from Johns Hopkins University.
